HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA.com) - The Florida Department of Transportation plans a new traffic light and crosswalk on a busy section of Hillsborough Avenue, where dozens of pedestrians have been hit since 2008.

Three of those pedestrians were killed.

Last month, two sisters were hit and one died after they were hit crossing Hillsborough Avenue after school let out at Middleton High School.

FDOT says it's working with the city of Tampa to install the crosswalk and traffic light. But it will take 16 months to install the new safety measures. That's because it will take time to move utilities and work out right of way issues with the city.
