Rays Batter Tanaka To Take Fourth Straight Game

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays got two homers from Corey Dickerson and a third from Evan Longoria in a wild affair that saw the Rays take their fourth straight game and get back over .500 with a 9-5 decision over the New York Yankees.

Dickerson led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot off Yankee starter Masahiro Tanaka, his tenth of the year, to give the Rays a 1-0 lead, though the lead was short-lived, as Aaron Judge lifted an opposite field homer in the top of the next inning.

An RBI double by Jesus Sucre broke the tie in the bottom of the second, though the catcher would later be picked off second base with the bases loaded to end the inning, and Longoria's solo shot, made it a 301 game.

Chase Headley's two-run double in the fourth tied the game back up at 3-3, but Dickerson's second blast of the afternoon, a three-run homer off Tanaka that gave the Rays the lead for good.

The Yankees got back to 6-4 on a solo homer by Gary Sanchez, and Andriese hit Matt Holiday with a 2-2 slider, which started  spree of batters getting hit Tampa Bay added three more in the top of the fifth after Tommy Layne hit Corey Dickerson with a fastball up around the shoulders.  Kevin Kiermaier's RBI single scored Daniel Robertson, and two batters later, Logan Morrison's single brought in both Dickerson and Kiermaier.

Andriese started the sixth by hitting Judge, prompting home plate umpire Scott Barry to eject him.  Judge scored on a groundout by Headley to set the score at 9-5.  

Chase Whitley worked three innings of relief after the ejection of Andriese, while Jumbo Diaz worked a scoreless ninth to end the game.

With the win to improve to 23-22, Tampa Bay gets over .500 for the first time since April 22, when the team was 10-9.

The Rays can finish the sweep Sunday afternoon, as Chris Archer (3-2, 3.70 ERA) takes o CC Sabathia (3-2, 4.93 ERA).  First pitch is scheduled for 1:10, with coverage on WDAE beginning Sunday morning at 11:00 wit The Inside Pitch, Presented by Sykes Lakeland.
