Cobb Heads To DL With Turf Toe

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- The prospect of Alex Cobb getting through the season without seeing any time missed due to injury will not happen, as the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday placed the starting pitcher on the 10-day disabled list with turf toe in his right big toe.

"It's just a little lingering toe issue that I felt last game." Cobb said Tuesday.  "Talked to Ron [Porterfield] and Cash and all those guys about it afterwards and monitored it.  Saw that the next day it was still there a little bit and decided to just be smart about it."

To take his spot in the rotation, left-hander Blake Snell, who was sent to Triple-A Durham following his start Thursday, was recalled and will now take the Cobb's spot for his next start Thursday against Cleveland.  Manager Kevin Cash

The way I look at it, it's another opportunity for Blake to come in here and keep making progress and then help us win games, so to me he was the obvious choice.
