Goalie Ben Bishop wasn't surprised at all about Wednesday's trade to Tampa Bay. In fact, he likes it. "I'm very excited to get down to Tampa", Bishop told Steve Duemig on Wednesday on 620 WDAE.
Bishop was acquired from Ottawa for forward Cory Conacher and a 4th round pick. Bishop told the Big Dog he spoke to Lightning GM Steve Yzerman briefly after the trade. "I've only spoken to Yzerman so far. He welcomed me to the organization, excited to have me", says Bishop.
Bishop has some familiarity with Lightning head coach Jon Cooper from the AHL. Bishop is also familiar with a few of the Lightning players, namely Eric Brewer and Teddy Purcell. Bishop told Duemig he's flying from Boston to Carolina on Wednesday night and could be available for Thursday's road game against the Hurricanes.
By the way, Bishop loves the change of scenery as he goes from Ottawa to the warm sun of Tampa. "It's going to be nice going from the snow to the sand", says Bishop.
