Lightning forward Nate Thompson joined the Ron and Ian Show Thursday morning after the team announced they would use the compliance buyout on longtime captain Vincent Lecavalier.

Thompson, who is in Minnesota, said he saw the rumors about Lecavalier possibly being bought out, but was shocked when he heard the official news.

"Well you obviously know through social media and see everyone talking about it," Thompson said, "But, yeah, I was shocked. I had just got done working out and my phone was blowing up. Yeah, I totally was shocked. It's tough, obviously close to Vinny, and consider him one of my really good friends on the team. Good teammate, great guy. He does a lot, not just on the ice, but a lot for the community in Tampa. But yeah, I'm still kind of shocked."

Thompson went on to say there are a lot of leaders on the Lightning, and he wasn't sure who would wear the "C" moving forward.
