The Minnesota Wild hand the Bolts a 2-1 loss, their third loss of the 4-game road trip.
This game was a homecoming for Tampa Bay RW J.T. Brown. He attended University of Minnesota Deluth where he helped his team win the national championship.
Nino Niederreiter scores first with a power-play goal for the Wild at the 16:04 mark in the first period (1-0). The Lightning led the Wild in shots in the first period with an 11-8 margin.
The second period was scoreless for both teams. The Bolts matched their first period shots total with 11. Ben Bishop blocked all 14 shots he saw from the Wild in the second period.
The Wild did not waste any time scoring in the third period. Dany Heatley found the back of the net just 34 seconds into the period (2-0). Valtteri Filppula scores at the 13:53 mark to get the Lightning on the board (2-1).
That would be the final, however. The Lightning had their chances, including a shot off the post by Tyler Johnson in the last seconds of regulation that would have tied it.
The Lightning went 0-for-2 on the power-play and had a total of 35 shots. The Wild went 1-for-2 on the power-play with the Niederreiter goal in the first period and had a total of 26 shots.
The Bolts will hit the ice again on Thursday when they come back home to face the Toronto Maple Leafs. The puck drops at 7:30 PM.
