When the Lightning drafted Jonathan Drouin No. 3 overall the talk centered around him being NHL-ready.

Apparently not so much. Drouin was sent to the juniors Sunday and that means he will be ineligible for call-up to the NHL all year.

"Our biggest concern was ice time," said GM Steve Yzerman in comments to Tampa Bay Times reporter Damian Cristodero. "The wey we're set up front, he's not going to get the minutes we want him to play. so it's best he goes back to junior."

The other noteworthy cut was preseason top goal scorer Brett Connolly, who told Cristodero it was "tough.. I've never been cut like that before."

Yzerman suggested that Connolly could be a candidate for an early call-up the moment a player struggles or has an injury.
