Last Wednesday, the Lightning announced forward Ryan Malone was placed on injured reserve due to a "lower body injury" sustained on the road in Anaheim. WDAE confirmed with the Lightning staff that the injury was to his foot, but the extent was unknown at the time.
Today in Columbus, General Manager Steve Yzerman told Tampa Bay reporters how extensive the injury actually is.

Malone was drafted in the fourth round of the 1999 Entry Draft by his hometown Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played in 2003-04, (lockout 2005-06) and from 2006-08. The defensive-conscience power forward was traded to Tampa Bay following the 2008 season, and has played in 308 out of a possible 451 games for the Lightning, scoring 90 goals and recording 105 assists.
