The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have acquired Chicago Bears 2011 first-round draft choice Gabe Carimi, an offensive lineman via a trade late Sunday afternoon for a 2014 sixth round draft pick.  Carimi is flying to Tampa to take a physical with the Buccaneers, and must pass the physical for the trade to become 100% official.

The 29th overall selection in the 2011 draft, Carimi started just two games at right tackle for the Bears in his rookie season before he suffered a season-ending knee injury that required multiple procedures to correct. Carimi bounced back in his sophomore season managing to start the first 10 games of 2012 at right guard but spending the final weeks of the season playing both guard and tackle.

Carimi has two years left on his rookie contract that guaranteed his base salary in the second and third years of the deal. Carimi is scheduled to earn a guaranteed base salary of $1,016,458 in 2013.

Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun Times was first to report the trade.
