Tampa Bay Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer says he’s learned from the past that you should always go get who you want and do it quickly.  Hence why the Bucs made the move swiftly to go get Lovie Smith as their new head coach and sign Jason Licht as their new general manager.

Glazer spoke to the assembled media following Licht’s introductory press conference on Thursday afternoon at One Buccaneers Place saying the organization interviewed six or seven candidates for the position and are happy that Licht is in the building with Lovie Smith in Tampa.

“It was our view and Lovie’s view collectively that we wanted someone whose background is just strong in football” said Glazer.  “(Licht ) just a good evaluator and a good scout with a strong background.”

Glazer said that head coach Lovie Smith was ‘very involved’ with the search for the team’s new general manager meeting with each of them individually.  According to Glazer, Licht was just the right fit for the Buccaneers of everyone the organization talked to.

“All the candidates we met were impressive people.  Jason had certain qualities that just worked out for us” said Glazer.
