Congratulations to Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie quarterback Mike Glennon as it was announced Tuesday afternoon he has won the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) award for the top rookie quarterback in the NFL. Glennon was the 73rd player selected overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. The right hander from NC State was the third quarterback taken, following Buffalo's E.J. Manuel in the first round and the New York Jets' Geno Smith in the second round.
Glennon's selection marks the first time since 2007 that the PFWA's All-Rookie quarterback was not a player taken in the first round of the previous year's draft.
Glennon telling Buccaneers.com:
“It’s something that I’m proud of,” said Glennon. “A lot of work went into this year, but I also received a lot of help from my teammates to put me in situations to succeed. Hopefully, this is something to build on going forward, as I’m already starting to prepare for next year.”

The Pro Football Writers of America today released its annual All-Rookie Team selections, which named Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon to the squad, marking the first time a Buccaneers signal-caller has earned the distinction since Vinny Testaverde in 1987.
Glennon was named Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback in Week 4 of the 2013 season, and went on to lead the team through the remaining 13 games, finishing the year 247-of-416 (59.4 pct.) for 2,068 yards with 19 touchdowns to only nine interceptions and becoming the first rookie in NFL history to throw a touchdown pass in his first eight starts.
“It’s something that I’m proud of,” said Glennon. “A lot of work went into this year, but I also received a lot of help from my teammates to put me in situations to succeed. Hopefully this is something to build on going forward, as I’m already starting to prepare for next year.”
This season, Glennon led all rookie quarterbacks in both passing touchdowns (19) and passer rating (83.9), while finishing the season first in the NFC and second in the NFL amongst rookies with his 2,068 passing yards. He claimed numerous franchise rookie records, including passing yards and passing touchdowns.
Glennon was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November 2013 following four weeks in which he helped secure three wins for the Buccaneers. During that span, he recorded the third-best passer rating (119.7), third-best yards-per-attempt (8.62), fourth-best completion percentage (70.5 pct.), tied for fifth-best touchdown-to-interception ratio (7:1) and tied for sixth-most touchdown passes in the league.
With passer ratings of 137.5 against Atlanta in Week 10 and 138.4 at Detroit in Week 11, Glennon became one of only two rookies in NFL history to record two games with a passer rating of 137 or better in the same season (Dieter Brock, 1985). He also earned the distinction of recording the second-best single-game completion rate in the NFL during the regular season, connecting on 87.0 percent of his attempts vs. Atlanta, behind only Peyton Manning (Week 17 at Oakland, 89.3 pct.).
Glennon has also earned ESPN and Pro Football Focus All-Rookie Team honors.
