According to a report by Charlotte Observer Panthers beat reporter Joe Person, wide receiver Steve Smith listed five teams as potential trade partners for the Panthers.  Of those teams, the Buccaneers was listed along with the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and San Diego Chargers.

Several reports (including from Person) have the Panthers outright releasing the 35-year old wideout.  Smith provided the list of teams to Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman to see if the team could work a deal, but the 7 million dollar cap hit a team would take with the trade makes any deal nearly impossible.

Smith ends his career with the Panthers holding virtually every receiving record in franchise history. His 12,197 yards are nearly 3,000 yards in front of Mushin Muhammad, while his 836 receptions and 67 touchdowns also out-distance Muhammad.
