The Tampa Bay Buccaneers get another crack tonight at earning their first win of the season against divisional rival Carolina.  Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said throughout the week that the team is desperate to get their first victory, however NFL on FOX analyst Brian Billick believes that the total focus shouldn’t be on just getting the first ‘W’ of the season.  Billick believes the complete focus for the Buccaneers should be on finding out if quarterback Mike Glennon could be the starting quarterback long term for the franchise.

“Right now for Tampa Bay and obviously they’re struggling, I would contend that it’s probably ok for Mike Glennon to be throwing it around a bunch” said Billick.  “Beyond trying to get that first win, job one for Tampa Bay right now with the remaining part of the schedule is trying to find out if Mike Glennon can be your quarterback or not.”

Billick likens the situation with Mike Glennon to the situation the Carolina Panthers had with Cam Newton by letting the first overall pick sling the ball around rather than concentrate on wins.

“Who cares if you go 5-11 or 6-10?  If you’re not in the playoffs, you’re not in the playoffs period” said Billick.  “They (Carolina) let Cam Newton throw the ball around and he learned a lot, and they (Carolina) learned a lot about Cam Newton.  I would make the same contention for Mike Glennon.”

Glennon has out performed former quarterback Josh Freeman this season through the first three games that each has started for the Buccaneers.   Glennon has thrown for more yards and more touchdowns than the former four year veteran QB.
