The Bucs first preseason game is Friday and with the first game comes the first depth chart. Mandated by the league, teams will just throw something together to fulfill the league's request.
It's the case for the Buccaneers -- who put a depth chart together that had Mike Evans as part of the second team offense, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins behind all the other tight ends, and defensive end Da'Quan Bowers listed as a defensive tackle behind Gerald McCoy.
But the focus won;t necessarily be on them. Instead, it'll be on others like wide receivers Robert Herron and Tommy Streeter, cornerbacks Danny Gorrer and Leonard Johnson, and any name fighting for the starting guard position among others.
Teams have to get to 75 players from 90 by August 26 then down to the final 53 four days later. Head coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday that in the third preseason game the starters would be playing up to three quarters. That third preseason game falls on August 23.
The first two games of the preseason are crucial. By then, the staff may already have an idea who will be on that cut list. The time for those players to start impressing begins Friday night in Jacksonville.
