If this was the dress rehearsal, the Bucs are on track to be ready for the season opener.  The Bucs dominated the Bills in Buffalo 27-14 to get their 1st preseason win.  The Bills drop to 1-3 in preseason play.  The starters played the first half for the Bucs—with the exception of the starting offensive line which stayed in to start the 3rd quarter.  

 

The first team defense forced two turnovers in the first quarter.  Safety Dashon Goldson picked off E.J. Manuel early.  Then, Bills running back C.J. Spiller fumbled the football that was recovered by Mason Foster.  The ball was returned to the 39 yard line of Buffalo.  Five plays later, Doug Martin went soaring over the pile for a 1 yard TD run.  The play was set up by a 21 yard pass from Josh McCown to Martin down to the 1 yard line.

 

The Bucs defense came up with a score of their own in the 2nd quarter.  Manuel was sacked by Adrian Clayborn and Michael Johnson—Manuel fumbled and DT Clinton McDonald returned it 17 yards for a score to make it 17-0 Bucs.  In that 1st half, the Bucs defense recorded two sacks, 3 takeaways and a touchdown.  

 

Bucs offense got off to a slow start but they started to pick up their play in the 2nd quarter.  McCown engineered an 11play drive spanning 82 yards.  It culminated with a 24 yard TD pass to rookie Mike Evans, who put a double-move on the Bills CB Ron Brooks to get by him.  Bucs had a 24-0 halftime lead.  McCown played the first half an finished 13 of 16 for 112 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT.  Martin had 12 carries for 38 yards and a score.  Vincent Jackson hauled in 5 catches for 43 yards on five targets.  Evans had 3 receptions for 44 yards and a score.  

 

The Bills’ first team offense score a couple of touchdowns against the Bucs’ second team defense in the second half.  Former Bucs WR Mike Williams caught a touchdown from Manuel.  Williams finished with 3 catches for 46 yards and a score.  

 

The Bucs wrap up their preseason against the Redskins on Thursday night from Raymond James Stadium.  Our pre-game show begins at 5pm on 620am WDAE and 95.3FM.  The season opener is on September 7 at home against Carolina.
