Its not going to be easy filling the void left behind by the departure of Carl Nicks. The two-time All-Pro decided to step away from the game of football on Friday after a tenure with the Bucs that was filled with an injury which led to many complications. But the loss of Nicks could be beneficial.

Tampa Bay can now focus on a player to come in and compete for rights to start at left guard. That player, who head coach Lovie Smith named as Jamon Meredith (for now), will be playing without any concern of a flare up or any complications from an injury.

Meredith is no Carl Nicks. However, he does give something the Bucs haven't had at left guard and that's stability. There was too much uncertainty with Nicks but the team can now focus on having a name on the depth chart at left guard without an asterisk.

It's unfortunate. In fact, it's very unfortunate what happened between Nicks and the Buccaneers. But for both sides it's better this way and more importantly, it's better for Nicks and his health.
