The Auburn Tigers trailed by as much as 13 points but fought to make it a close game for the #7 ranked Florida Gators. Billy Donovan’s crew led by Casey Prather off the bench, were able to survive a courageous effort by the Tigers and win on the road 68-61. The Gators move to 5-0 in SEC play while the Tigers remain winless in conference play.
Prather making his return after missing the Gators’ last two game with a bone bruise was the difference and energy the Gators needed in a raucous Auburn home court. Prather hitting his first five shots of the game led the Gators to their largest lead of the game at 13 mid way through the first half. Auburn would close the first half on a 13-5 run to close the Gators’ lead to 33-32 as the Tigers were hot from the three point arc hitting their first six shots from downtown.
The Gators went blow for blow with the Tigers in the second half. Auburn guard Chris Denson closed the game to a three point advantage for Florida with three minutes to play, but senior guard Scottie Wilbekin would be the difference in the closing minutes with four clutch points for the road team pulling out a tougher than usual win for the blue and orange.
Wilbekin finished with 16 points and 3 rebounds for the Gators. Patric Young finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds including a huge block in the closing seconds on KT Harrell.
The Gators stay undefeated in conference play and will look to improve on that record on Thursday as they head to play Alabama. You can catch the game on WDAE beginning at 6:25pm with the pre-game, and a 7:00pm tipoff.
