The much anticipated Gators-Idaho game has been put on hold for three years.

"We looked at a number of options and, in the end, we both thought was in the best interest of our student-athletes and football programs to play our the remainder of our schedules as they stand," said UF athletic director Jeremy Foley on Wednesday.

Florida will still pay out its agreed amount of $975,000 to the University of Idaho for taking the game. Fans will get fully refunded on their tickets.

The schools agreed to play in 2017, more than likely in the season's second week.

Wednesday's news means the Gators will play an 11-game regular season.
