The Florida Gators successfully defended their new number one ranking in both the Associated Press poll and USA Today Coaches poll with a close 57-54 win over Vanderbilt on Tuesday night.  With the win, the Gators have now won 20 straight games and remain undefeated in conference play with selection Sunday just over a week away.

This is the 18th season for head coach Billy Donovan in Gainesville as he has amassed two national titles and three elite eight appearances the last three seasons.  ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale joined WDAE’s ‘The Sports Page’ on Thursday as talked about the legacy Donovan is creating as the head man in the swamp.

“He’s a hall of famer,” said Vitale.  “There is no doubt in my mind when we look at coaches in the hall of fame already who are coaching today, I say why not Billy Donovan.  Two national titles and he’s had them to the elite eight three consecutive years, and that’s the strength of this team.  The strength of this team is not only experience, but a winner’s experience.”

The Gators will look to win their 21st in a row on Saturday as they host LSU.  Coverage begins at 3:25pm on 1250am WHNZ.
