Chris Archer was masterful once again as the 24 year old right hander shut down the ‘Bronx Bombers’ in Yankee Stadium with a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.  Archer has now won four straight decisions as the Tampa Bay Rays remain the hottest team in Major League Baseball winning their third straight game, and 24 of their last 29.

Archer’s complete game-two hitter is his second complete game in his last three starts.  Archer held the Yankees’ batters hitless till the fifth inning when Lyle Overbay’s single to center field cancelled the no hit bid.  Brett Gardner’s ground rule double in the 6th would be the only other blemish on Archer’s line for the game.

The Rays offense in retrospect couldn’t do much against Yankees’ starting pitcher Ivan Nova, only scoring the one run on the New York hurler.  A Kelly Johnson bloop single to center field was the difference in the game scoring Ben Zobrist.

Archer finished the game allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.  Ivan Nova gets the loss allowing the lone run on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

The Rays will look for the sweep of the New York Yankees tomorrow afternoon.  You can check out all the action on WDAE with the pre-game beginning at 11:00am, with a first pitch of 1:05pm.  The Rays will send Matt Moore up against Phil Hughes for New York.
