Former Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price is heading back to Tropicana Field this week as the Detroit Tigers begin a three game series on Tuesday.  Price’s return marks the first time he will pitch as an opponent in his former home park as the MLB trade deadline was three weeks ago when the Rays moved Price to Detroit in a three team deal.

One person looking forward to Price’s return in Tampa Bay is his former pitching coach Jim Hickey, who joined WDAE’s “The Ron and Ian Show” on Monday morning.

“We talk all the time and he gets it.  He certainly understands it and everyone understands it,” said Hickey.  “He certainly didn’t want to leave here.  I know he loves it here, most people who do play here like it here.  He’s looking forward to coming back.  As a matter of fact he flew back yesterday on his own instead of flying today with the Tigers team so he could be here and hang out with some of his boys.  He understands it and was very disappointed but he loved it here.  He loved nothing more to win a world championship here and who knows, he’s free agent again here after a year and a half so stranger things have happened.”
