Just three weeks ago the Rays traded ace David Price to the Tigers. Today Price was back at the Trop for the first time since the trade and after an uneasy first inning, Price settled in. Tampa Bay had their new ace on the hill, and Alex Cobb matched Price inning for inning as the Rays salvage the finale of this three game series with a 1-0 win.
The Rays got on the board in the first inning after Tigers shortstop Eugenio Suarez throwing error allowed Ben Zobrist to reach. Brandon Guyer delivered the first run of the game on an RBI triple that scored Zobrist from first.
Cobb was terrific going seven innings striking out six Tigers hitters while scattering two hits. David Price was even better giving up just the one hit in the first inning and striking out nine Rays hitters. The one run scored by the Rays was unearned as Zobrist reached on the error by Suarez.
Tampa Bay heads back on the road to start a seven game road trip tomorrow night in Toronto. Drew Smyly takes the ball for the Rays opposite Marcus Stroman for the Jays. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM with our coverage starting on 6:00 PM with the Suncoast Hyundai Dealer"s Inside Pitch.
