It did not take long for the Rays to fall behind early on the west coast as it was pair of back-to-back hit by the Mariners gave Seattle a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. Cesar Ramos got the ball for the Rays and while he was not sharp pitching, neither was the defense behind him.
The Rays committed four errors in the first three innings, including two in the five run fifth inning by Seattle. It was a 9-0 lead for the Mariners after the first three innings of the game and with Felix Hernandez on the mound, Seattle went into cruise control.
Tampa was able to chase the Mariners ace in the seventh inning after Ryan Hanigan delivered a three run double with two outs. David DeJesus followed with a double of his own and the Rays found themselves down just 9-4 after seven innings.
The comeback would not go past the seventh inning for the Rays who lose 12-5 in Seattle to open up the road trip. The team looks to bounce back tomorrow night in game two of this three game series.
