Rays fans, they know.

With the reaction to the David Price trade being almost universally negative, Rays team President Matt Silverman gave the club's side of the story Monday when he joined the Sports Page.

"It's an emotional reaction, and the emotions of the fans are shared by the emotions of the Front Office," Silverman told Tom Jones and Rick Stroud. "This is a tough trade for us. But there's a trust factor we've developed with our fan base, and I think our fans have come to understand the difficult model that we have to work within."

Was there a "magic number" in the Games Behind column in the Wild Card standings? On the other side of which the Rays would have hung on to Price. Silverman said there was not.

He did challenge the exertion that the Rays are becoming a "farm club" for the rest of the league -- reminded everyone that Tampa Bay has been consistently one of the top squads in recent years.
