GUYER HEADS TO DL: Monday the Rays put outfielder Brandon Guyer on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left thumb. The team says Guyer suffered the injury Sunday when diving for a double hit by Boston's Grady Sizemore.
To take his place on the roster pitcher Alex Colome was reinstated from the reserve/suspended list and recalled. Colome was suspended for 50 games in March after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. The right-hander made three starts with Class-A Charlotte on a rehab assignment, giving up two runs on seven hits with five walks and ten strikeouts in 11 innings.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- 16 - The number of wins the Rays have when their starting pitcher has a qualiity start (6 innings or more pitches, three runs or less allowed).
- 17 - The number of quality starts the Rays staff has, tied for fewest in the majors (Texas, Baltimore).
- 179.1 - The number of innings the Tampa Bay bullpen has pitched this year, most in MLB and 36 more than the team had last year at this time.
- 700 - The number of wins Joe Maddon has as Rays manager after Sunday's victory over Boston. The three other managers in franchise history (Larry Rothschild, Hal McRae, and Lou Pinella) combined for just 518 victories.
