With the loss of Jeremy Hellickson for six to eight weeks due to elbow surgery, the search is on for who will fill in while the right-hander rehabs. One of the names being bantered around most is right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who isn't trying to put pressure on himself.
"My mindset was coming to try and win a job, and now with Helly's unfortunate situation, it's a realistic thing," Odorizzi said on the new Rays podcast Turning Two. "I'm going to come in and try and do my best to win that job."
Odorizzi also discussed the comfort that comes with his second spring with the Rays, and what he likes most about new catcher Ryan Hanigan.
