For the second time in just over a month, a pitcher has been hit by a line drive in the head while pitching at Tropicana Field.

Following the May 7th incident at the Trop that saw Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ get hit by a line drive off the bat of Desmond Jennings, Rays right-hander Alex Cobb was hit in the head Saturday by a liner off the bat of Eric Hosmer in the fifth inning.  Cobb was down on the field for approximately ten minutes while medical personnel and both teams' training staffs attended to him.

Cobb left on a stretcher, and did not motion to the crowd.  He was replaced by Alex Torres.

UPDATE 5:55 pm - Cobb is expected to be ok.  According to a source, he was hit on the right ear by the line drive, and had his ear split open.

UPDATE 6:12 pm - The team announced that Cobb was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, but did not lose consciousness at any time after being hit.
