Rays pitching coach and friend of The Ron and Ian Show, joined WDAE Monday morning and talked all things Rays pitching.

Hickey told Diaz and Beckles that the team found about the decision to call up Enny Romero on Saturday, but the front office had it in the works at some point during the 18 inning marathon Friday night.

"We were going to have a meeting post-game Friday night, but that got cancelled around 1:30 (am) or so - everyone was too tired," Hickey said. "I think Andrew (Friedman) and the guys in the front office were working on it, probably, sometime during game-time on Friday, but we found out about it on Saturday and kind of solidified that. What a wild ride it was for him, huh?"

Hickey went on to say that Jeremy Hellickson probably could have gone another inning and explained why the Rays avoided using Josh Luecke during Friday night's history making game.

"We still had a couple tricks still left up our sleeve, but it was getting close" Hickey admitted. "But it's hard to believe in the month of September, when you literally have 16 or 17 pitchers on your roster that you can come close to running out, but we sure did."
