Right before the Missouri Valley Conference championship game Sunday, University of Missouri-St. Louis optometry student Alex Permann hit a half-court shot that cost himself $50,000.

Permann was selected for a shooting contests in which he had to make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer and half-court shot in 24 seconds to win $50,000.

The 24-year-old hit the layup and the free throw, then ran to midcourt and nailed a half-court shot. Then Permann and the crowd went nuts thinking they had just witnessed the biggest winner of the weekend.
