Recent tests by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, found that the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system was only 85% accurate—compared to Facebook’s system that works 97% of the time. In 2010, a government auditor reported that the FBI’s facial recognition technology could possibly fail up to 20% of the time. FBI Director James Comey told Congress last month that the agency will not be collecting and storing photos of average citizens.
