Faria, Rays Hold On To End Losing Streak

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- Tim Beckham's three-run homer off Wade Miley capped a five-run second inning, giving the Tampa Bay Rays a 5-4 win over

After Faria worked out of situations that allowed Baltimore to get a runner into scoring position in each of the first two innings, Tampa Bay would jump on Orioles starter Wade Miley in the bottom of the second, as a leadoff single by Steven Souza Jr., followed by one-out hits from Brad Miller and Adeiny Hechaverria loaded the sacks for Mallex Smith, who drove in Souza with a base hit of his own, and Jesus Sucre made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to right.

Beckham then busted the game open by blasting his 12th home run of the season to centerfield to make the lead a handful.

Faria (5-1) gave back a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado, and let the lead get cut to 5-2 an inning later on Trey Mancini's 16th home run.

The Rays starter left in the eighth after allowing a one-out walk to Jonathan Schoop, and reliever Tommy Hunter walked Mancini and Seth Smith with two out and gave up a two-run single to Wellington Castillo, but struck out pinch-hitter Hyun-Soo Kim to keep Tampa Bay in the lead.

Alex Colome had Joey Rickard reach on a Beckham error and gave up a singles to Machado and Schoop, but earned his 29th save of the year thanks to a double play grounder by Adam Jones prior to the singles and a fielder's choice groundout by Mark Trumbo.

The win gets Tampa Bay to three games over .500 at 52-49.

The Rays can take the series from Baltimore with a win in Wednesday's finale.  Alex Cobb (8-6, 3.57 ERA) will get the start, taking on Ubaldo Jimenez (4-6, 7.19 ERA).  First pitch is scheduled for 12:10, with coverage on WDAE starting at 9:00 with the Ronnie & TKras Show live from Tropicana Field.
