Rays Earn Third Straight Win With Victory Over O's

ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays jumped out to an early lead thanks to a Brad Miller homer run, but it was Wilson Ramos' seventh-inning sacrifice fly that proved to be the difference as the Rays held on for a 4-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles Saturday at Tropicana Field.

After Chris Archer and Miguel Castro went pitch for pitch for the first three innings, it would be Tampa Bay that struck in the fourth.  Corey Dickerson and Adeiny Hechaverria each singled off Castro to start the inning, and after a wild pitch allowed each runner to advance, Miller followed by taking a hanging slider and sending it deep into the seats in right for his ninth home run of the season.

Tampa Bay added a fourth run in the seventh, with Kevin Kiermaier singling off reliever Donnie Hart to start the inning, stealing second base, moving to third on a balk and scoring on a fly ball to center by Ramos.

Archer (10-12) allowed just two hits in five innings in what would be his final start of 2017.  Steve Cishek and Dan Jennings each had a scoreless inning of relief, but Tommy Hunter allowed Baltimore to get back to with 4-2 on a two-run single by Pedro Alvarez, and Anthony Santander's sacrifice fly in the ninth off Alex Colome made it 4-3 before the Rays closer finished off his MLB-leading 47th save.

Tampa Bay finishes off their 2017 season Sunday, as Blake Snell takes on Kevin Gausman.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:10, and will be heard on 1250 WHNZ and Throwback FM.
