Gators Destroyed By Georgia 42-7

The longest streak in college football history nearly came to an end as the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Florida Gators  42-7 in the annual match up in Jacksonville, FL.  The Gators streak of 367 games with a score was extended with a late fourth quarter touchdown, but the Bulldogs defense held the Gators offense to 249 yards on the afternoon and nearly shut out Florida for the first time since 1982.

It didn’t take long for the contest to get out of hand as the Bulldogs put up 21 points in the first eight minutes of the game putting the Gators offense in a terrible position for any sort of comeback in the game.  Georgia took the ball into the end zone on their first possession going four plays and 53 yards ending in a Nick Chubb six yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 Georgia.

Following a Felepie Franks interception, Georgia used the short field to their advantage as quarterback Jake Fromm found Javon Wilms for 17 yards and another Georgia touchdown making it 14-0 Bullldogs.  Georgia running back Sony Michel got into the offensive explosion with the biggest play of the game as he took the first play from scrimmage on the very next Georgia possession to the house.  74 yards later the Bulldogs were in command blowing out Florida 21-0 with 7:32 left in the very first quarter.

Georgia took the 21-0 lead into the half, and added to it with Sony Michael adding another seven points on another long touchdown run.  Michael runs another 45 yards on the touchdown play and extended the Bulldogs lead to 28-0.  The Georgia defense added to the lead on the very next Florida possession as Franks was sacked by J.R. Reed and fumbled on the play, recovered by Georgia and ran in for another score.

After Elijah Holyfield added to the lead with a 39 yard touchdown run making it 42-0 Georgia, Florida swapped quarterbacks as Malik Zaire entered the game and led the Gators on his first possession for the lone Gators score of the game.  Mark Thompson ended a 9 play drive with a one yard touchdown run to extend the Gators NCAA record scoring streak to 368 games and a 42-7 ballgame.

Georgia outrushed the Gators 292-183 on the ground led by Sony Michel’s 137 yards on six carries for two touchdowns.  Quarterback Jake Fromm was 4-7 for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Malik Zaire played one series and finished 3-6 for 36 yards passing, which trumped Feleipe Franks 30 yards passing for the game.

Florida will head on the road next week to play at Missouri.
