MRI Shows Torn Ligament For Honeywell

PORT CHARLOTTE (620 WDAE) -- The Tampa Bay Rays got the worst news possible for right-hander Brent Honeywell Friday.

Results from an MRI shows that the pitcher suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, and that he was recommended to undergo Tommy John surgery.

Honeywell said team doctor Koco Eaton diagnosed the tear, but told him to get a second opinion.  The pitcher said he'll see Dr. James Andrews for the second opinion, but has already decided to undergo the surgery.
