Rays Lose In Extras In Miami

After winning 8 of their last 9 games, the Tampa Bay Rays were unable to string together hits & lost 3-2 on Monday night to the Marlins in Miami.  Third baseman Yadiel Rivera's infield hit scored Outfielder Brian Anderson, who led off the 10th inning with a walk & took third on a single by catcher J.T. Realmuto.  Rivera's hit was a groundball, one-hopper down the third base line & Rays third baseman Matt Duffy backhanded the ball, double-clutched then threw the ball wild, past catcher Wilson Ramos, allowing Anderson to score.

The Rays loss was only their second in 10 games but the loss is their 21st one run loss, most in the majors this year.  Although the Rays got another quality start from pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who went six innings allowing 2 runs including a solo home run to Realmuto.  Eovaldi's start was followed by two shuout innings by Matt Andriese & a three strikeout inning by Diego Castillo.  But Ryne Stanek struggled in his only inning, allowing the lead-off walk to Anderson, which led to the game-winning run.

It looked like the Rays tough loss would end in the ninth, but first baseman C.J. Cron tied the game in the ninth with a two-out RBI double against Marlins' pithcer Kyle Barraclough.  The run allowed by the Miami closer was the first run he had allowed since May 8th.

Tampa Bay will look to even up the series on Tuesday night when rookie lefty Ryan Yarbrough (7-4 3.76) gets the ball while Miami sends Trevor Richards (2-5 5.06) to the mound.  Coverage beings on 620 WDAE with Steve Carney & The Inside Pitch & first pitch is at 7:10.
