President Trump Calls New NFL Anthem Policy "Worse"

President Donald Trump is at it again by bashing the NFL, only this time taking aim at a new policy which was created due to pressure from NFL fans and the President himself.

In May a new rule which was agreed upon by NFL owners says players can stay in the locker room during the anthem, but if they decide to be on the field while it is played and decide to kneel, there will be fines administered.

This rule was not officially voted upon by NFL owners though it was passed. It had a couple of abstentions.  Several NFL players were not pleased with the rule themselves.

“Isn't that worse than not standing?” Trump asked the crowd at a campaign style rally in Montana Thursday night. “That doesn't play. I actually think in many ways it’s worse.”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in May when the new rule was announced said the goal of the league’s new anthem policy was to be “respectful.”

“We want people to be respectful of the national anthem,” Goodell said. “We want people to stand — that's all personnel — and make sure they treat this moment in a respectful fashion. That's something we think we owe. (But) we were also very sensitive to give players choices.”
