ST. PETERSBURG (620 WDAE)  -- The Tampa Bay Rays had four pitchers combine for a five-hitter, while Wilson Ramos' three-run homer in the third capped a five-run inning to give the Rays a 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

Ryne Stanek, back in his opener role, worked the first two innings, allowing just a single hit and striking out a pair to keep the game scoreless, as Rays hitters could not figure out Matthew Boyd until the third.  But in the third, Carlos Gomez walked with one out, giving Tampa Bay their first base runner.  He then stole second base and scored on a ground ball by Willy Adames that went off Jose Iglesias' glove in the hole at shortstop and rolled into left field.  Kevin Kiermaier, followed up with a base hit that plated Adames, and after Boyd struck out Matt Duffy and hit Daniel Robertson with a pitch, Wilson Ramos busted the game open.

That would be more than enough for the Tampa Bay pitching staff.  Jose Alvarado earned his first major league win, working a scoreless third and fourth.  Jaime Schultz rebounded from a tough outing on Monday to toss two scoreless innings of relief himself with three strikeouts.

Detroit would not get on the board until the top of the ninth, when Adam Kolarek, working his third inning of relief, allowed an RBI double to Nicholas Castellanos and a run-scoring single by Niko Goodrum, and Sergio Romo was called on to get the final out, striking out Ronny Rodriguez on three pitches to earn his 10th save of the year.

The win puts the Rays at a season-best three games over .500 at 47-44.
