The Tampa Bay Rays found a way to survive to take the final game of a three game series against the Oakland Athletics 5-4 on Sunday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL.  The Rays secured a five run lead heading into the ninth inning when a Khris Davis grand slam made things interesting late, but Sergio Romo closed the door as Tampa Bay secures another home series win.

CJ Cron got things started early for Tampa Bay with his 27th home run of the season giving the Rays an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.  Tampa Bay took their two run lead into the bottom of the fourth and added another run on a solo home run from Willy Adames to give the Rays a 3-0 lead.  Brandon Lowe added two more for Tampa Bay in the bottom of the seventh with a pinch hit two-RBI double to make it 5-0 Rays.

Things got interesting as the Rays took their lead into the ninth inning when Jake Faria was the seventh Rays pitcher used to start the frame and walked the bases loaded.  With no outs, Sergio Romo came in following a big strikeout from Jose Alvarado who replaced Faria.  Romo allowed a grand slam by Khris Davis to make it a one run lead.

Romo closed the door with the final two outs of the game, as the Rays secured their 82nd  win of the season and guarantees the first winning season under Manager Kevin Cash since his tenure began in Tampa Bay, and first since 2013.  The Rays will now head on a seven game road trip beginning in Texas against the Rangers on Monday night.
