Gators Get Big SEC Win Over Tennessee

The Florida Gators (3-1, 1-1) knocked off the Tennessee Volunteers (2-2, 0-1) in convincing fashion on Saturday evening, coming away with a 47-21 victory.

The Gators scored early and often in this one.  Four Tennessee turnovers led to 24 points for the Gators, including short touchdowns in the first quarter.  It was the 13th win for Florida in the last 14 matchups with Tennessee, and for the Gators, they posted the highest offensive output ever in Knoxville.

Florida and Tennessee each gained 204 yards in the first half, but the Gators led 26-3 at the intermission after scoring 17 points off three Tennessee turnovers. Florida extended the lead to 33-3 on Jordan Scarlett's 19-yard touchdown run immediately after Tennessee's Shawn Shamburger fumbled the second-half kickoff.

The Florida Gators now look ahead to a matchup with 14th ranked Mississippi State on Saturday night.  For first year Gators head coach Dan Mullen, it will be his first return to Starkville, MS, where he served as the Bulldogs head coach from 2009-2017.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6 PM and can be heard throughout Tampa Bay on AM 1250 WHNZ.
