Florida State Suffers Worst Loss At Home In History 59-10 To #2 Clemson

The Florida State Seminoles suffered their worst loss at home in school history Saturday afternoon as the Noles fall to the #2 ranked Clemson Tigers 59-10.  Following a valiant defensive effort by Florida State in the first quarter of the game, the Tigers offense awoke for the remainder of the game nearly scoring at will pounding another dagger into the Noles bowl game hopes with their fourth loss of the season.

Following the opening quarter where the Noles held Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers to three punts on three possessions, the freshman signal caller finally began his offensive assault with a touchdown on the first possession of the second quarter.  Lawrence found Tee Higgins for a seven yard touchdown pass to give Clemson the 7-0 lead as that score would begin four straight possessions of touchdowns for the #2 ranked Tigers taking a 28-0 lead into halftime.

Clemson didn’t slow down in the third quarter scoring on four straight possessions in the frame for 24 points in the third quarter, finding themselves leading 45-0 at one point in the game.  Florida State found the scoreboard in the third quarter on a Ricky Aguayo field goal avoiding the shutout, but Clemson didn’t down scoring touchdowns on the next two possessions to take a 59-3 lead over Florida State.

James Blackman replaced Deondre Francois in the fourth quarter due to injury and provided the only touchdown score of the game for FSU on a 73-yard touchdown pass to Keyshawn Helton cutting the Clemson lead to 49 points in the final frame of the game.

Trevor Lawrence finished the game 20-37 for 314 yards passing and four touchdowns, compared to Francois 17-36 day for 180 yards passing and one interception.  Clemson outgained Florida State 524-253 yards, as the Noles were held to -21 yards rushing.  Florida State committed 16 penalties for 140 yards, and matched a school record with 12 punts in the game.

Florida State will head on the road next week to take on #22 ranked NC State.
