Lightning Get Huge Two Points In Ottawa

The Lightning (33-26-9) needed overtime but got a huge two points, knocking off the Ottawa Senators (39-22-6) 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The game started well for the Lightning, as Brayden Point scored early in the first on a rebound off the rush for his third goal in the past two games.  Point, who turned 21 yesterday, now has 12 points (including nine goals) in his last nineteen games.  Andrei Vasilevsky played well as the period progressed, as Ottawa began to apply pressure but Vasy saved all 14 first period shot attempts on net.

The second period began with Ottawa continuing to buzz, and they converted early as Tommy Wingles scored an unassisted goal just 2:35 into the period.  From there the Lightning began applying more pressure, outshooting Ottawa in the second period 11-6.  Though both teams would had ample scoring opportunities, the game remained tied 1-1 going into the third period.

The Lightning had an opportunity to take the lead midway through the third period when Gabriel Dumont had a brilliant opportunity, but Mike Condon made an unreal save sprawled in the crease to keep the game 1-1.  Condon would finish the game with 35 saves on 37 shots on net for the Senators, while Andrei Vasilesvky converted 31-of-32 saves to secure the win.  Dumont's look was arguably the Lightning's best chance to win it in regulation, but from there the game would remain tied 1-1 through three and head into overtime.

In overtime the Lightning applied pressure, with Jonathan Drouin getting a shot off the post and Brayden Point getting a couple of good looks.  But it was Victor Hedman coming through with a huge goal with fifty-five seconds to go and the Lightning earned a huge second point.

The Lightning continue their playoff push when they return home to battle the Maple Leafs on Thursday.  Faceoff between Tampa Bay and Toronto is scheduled for 7:30 on Thursday night - hear it all beginning at 7 on News Radio 970 WFLA.
