Lightning Knock Off Predators 3-2 In OT

Nikita Kucherov scored in overtime to lift the Lightning to a 3-2 victory over the Predators to wrap up the preseason on a winning note.

The Tampa Bay Lightning led for the first time in more than a week when they struck first in this one, as Alex Killorn struck first to lift the Bolts to a 1-0 lead at the 5:49 mark in the first.  Nashville answered in the first with a goal from Miika Salomaki to make it 1-1 after the first period.  Alex Killorn scored again in the second period to lift the Bolts to a 2-1 advantage going into the final frame.

It appeared that 2-1 lead might be enough for Tampa Bay, who controlled much of the pace through the first two periods and outshot Nashville 22-15 during those first two frames.  However, the defending Western Conference champions did not let Tampa Bay off the hook that easily, as they tied the game at the 16:07 mark with a goal from Colton Sissons that would force overtime.

In overtime, the Predators were not able to manage a single shot on goal - Tampa Bay managed two, one from Victor Hedman, then a shot from Nikita Kucherov at 1:02 in that lifted the Lightning to a 3-2 win.  Pekka Rinne made 32 saves in 35 shots on net starting in goal for Nashville, while Andrei Vasilevskiy went 26-for-28 in net for the Lightning.

With the preseason in the books, Tampa Bay now shifts their focus to the regular season which begins on Friday night at Amalie Arena against the Florida Panthers.  Faceoff from downtown Tampa on opening night is set for 7:30 PM and coverage gets underway at 6:30 PM on News Radio 970 WFLA.
