Tampa Bay Lightning Stars Come Out In 4-2 Win Over Washington Capitals

The Tampa Bay Lightning found their scoring thunder in the nation’s capital to shock a red sea of Capitals fans in D.C. with a 4-2 win as the series now shifts to a two games to one lead for the Washington Capitals.  After being outscored 10-4 on their home ice at Amalie Arena, Andrei Vasilevskiy was a wall in net for the Bolts as he stopped 36 of 38 shots on goal sealing Tampa’s first win of the series.

Steven Stamkos opened up the scoring for Tampa Bay in the first period on the power play following a Braden Holtby tripping penalty.  Stamkos from the left circle blasted a one timer that found the back of the net putting Tampa Bay up 1-0 through the first.

The Bolts would score three more in the second off another power play tally by the stick of Nikita Kucherov to make it a 2-0 lead for Tampa Bay.   Kucherov then found Victor Hedman on a sweet pass cross ice less than two minutes later as the Norris Trophy finalist found a wide open net putting the Bolts up 3-0 on a silent Capital One Arena sold out crowd.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning winger Brett Connolly scored Washington’s lone goal mid way through the second to cut into Tampa Bay’s lead at 3-1, but the resilient Lightning  added right back to their lead six minutes later as Brayden Point rifled a wrister into traffic past the Holtby for the fourth goal of the game for Tampa Bay.  Evgeny Kuznetsov added to Washington’s total late with the empty net, but the Bolts sealed the deal and take game three on the road for their first victory of the series.

Victor Hedman finished with three points on the night, while Stamkos, Kucherov and Point all totaled two points a piece.  The Lightning finished the night two of five on the power play, while they were able to hold the Capitals scoreless on the man advantage for the first time this series.

Tampa Bay will look to duplicate what Washington did on the Bolts’ home ice at Amalie Arena by sweeping the home team in the first two games at Capital One Arena on Thursday. Opening face off scheduled for just after 8:00pm est, and you can hear the entire game on 970AM in Tampa Bay and on the IHeartRadio App.
