#9 Seed Seminoles Heading to NCAA Second Round

The ninth-seeded Florida State Seminoles are playing into the second round of the NCAA Tournament after knocking off the eighth seeded Missouri 67-54 on Friday night in Nashville.

Florida State has used depth of scoring as an asset all season long, and that depth of scoring led the Seminoles throughout this contest.  After Missouri scored seven of the game's first eight points, FSU woke up with an 11-0 run.  After that run FSU went on a 20-4 run to build a 42-20 first half lead, and all ten Seminoles who played scored first half points.

Missouri had an answer to start the second half, going on a 24-8 run and pulling within 52-44.  However, the Seminoles never lost their poise, and would answer with a 15-0 run that would lead Florida State to the 67-54 win that held little drama down the stretch run of this game.

Missouri, playing in their first NCAA Tournament since 2013, had no players who had ever played in the NCAA Tournament.  For Florida State, the win was their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament opening win.  The Seminoles were led by a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds from Mfiondu Kabengele, while Missouri was led by 19 points from Kassius Robertson.  Michael Porter, Jr, also had a double-double for the Tigers, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Seminoles advance to take on Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  The top seeded Musketeers advanced to the second round with a 102-83 win over Texas Southern in their first round - faceoff between FSU and Xavier is scheduled for 8:40 PM on Sunday night.
