Hurricanes Continue Success In Rivalry With Win Over Seminoles

The Florida State Seminoles (4-5, 3-4) fell to the Miami Hurricanes (5-4, 3-3) 27-10 on Saturday afternoon at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. It was the third consecutive win for Miami in the rivalry series with Florida State.

Miami struck first when Jarren Williams hit Jeff Thomas for a 39-yard touchdown in the first quarter. After the Seminoles got a field goal early in the second to pull within 7-3, Miami answered with ten second quarter points, including a 29-yard field goal as time expired in the half, to take a 17-3 lead over Florida State into halftime.

Florida State began the second half with their most impressive drive of the game, as the Seminoles put together a six-play, 62-yard drive that ended when Cam Akers caught an 18-yard pass for a touchdown to pull within 17-10 That would be as close as Florida State could get, however, as Miami added ten unanswered points in the fourth quarter to take a 27-10 win.

Jarren Williams went 21-for-37 yards with 317 yards and two touchdowns in the win for MIami - Jeff Thomas and Dee Wiggins were his favorite targets, each of them pulling in a touchdown. Alex Hornibrook went 17-for-24 with 135 yards, one touchdown and one interception before being pulled for James Blackman late in the game. For Florida State, the pressure continues to mount on head coach Willie Taggart as the season goes further and further away from initial expectations.

Florida State returns to action next Saturday afternoon when they travel to battle Boston College. Kickoff from Boston is scheduled for 12:00 PM next Saturday afternoon.
