USF Season Ends With Loss To UCF In War On I-4

The USF Bulls (4-8, 2-6) fell to the UCF Golden Knights (9-3, 6-2) 34-7 on Friday night at Spectrum Field in Orlando.

Dillon Gabriel threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns to lead UCF, while Alex Killins rushed for rushed for 115 yards and a score, as UCF was never seriously tested by the Bulls. The Knights built a 24-0 lead at halftime and erased any doubts as to who would be victorious in the third quarter when they answered USF's only touchdown with an 8-play, 82-yard touchdown drive answer.

Jordan McCloud went 9-for-21 with two interceptions at quarterback for the Bulls, while Johnny Ford led the Bulls in rushing with 58 yards and scored the Bulls only touchdown. The Knights dominated in pretty much every category, outgaining USF 539-250, including outrushing the Bulls 232-134. They also converted 28 first downs to only 15 first downs for USF.

Perhaps the most noteworthy incidents in this game began in the pregame - almost 90 minutes before gametime, in fact - as their was a skirmish between both teams. Then near the end of the second quarter, tempers flared again as players left the bench on both sides and the end result was four unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The incident began when Alex Killins was brought to the turf after USF's Antonio Grier had stopped his progress. He grabbed the facemask of USF's Nick Roberts as he went down, and a scuffle that resulted in a lengthy delay ensued.

For USF they now turn their attention to recruiting and Spring football as their season ended on Friday night. Their next scheduled game is in Austin against the University of Texas on Saturday, September 5th.
