The 9th seed Florida State Seminoles (17-15) defeated the 8th seed Virginia Tech Hokies (18-14) 86-76 on Wednesday afternoon in the ACC Tournament. The win eliminates Virginia Tech, while Florida State advances to the quarterfinals.
Jamir Watkins scored a career high 34 points, including 12 points in the final three minutes, to lead the Seminoles. He also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as the Seminoles pulled away late in the second half.
The Seminoles now advance to face to top seed North Carolina Tar Heels in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament. Tipoff between Florida State and #4 UNC is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Thursday afternoon.
