The Tampa Bay Lightning lost more than just a game Thursday night in Ottawa.

Lightning goalie Ben Bishop was injured less then two minutes into the game, Valteri Filppula also left with an injury, and the Senators got to backup Anders Lindback three times in a 5-3 defeat of the Bolts.

Bishop suffered what the team is calling an upper-body injury when he tried to play a puck controlled by Mika Zibanejad and appeared to be kneed in the back of the head by Nikita Kucheov.  Zibanejad found Marc Methot who easily shot the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Lindback held the deficit at a single goal until the final minute of the period, when Jason Spezza deked the netminder and easily found Erik Karlsson for a 2-0 Ottawa lead.

Alex Killorn got Tampa Bay back within a single goal three minutes into the second period, but that would be as close as the Lightning would get, as Ottawa got the lead back to two goals three minutes later as Zack Smith intercepted a clearing attempt and rocketed a shot past Lindback for a 3-1 lead.

Filppula initially left the ice after taking a check in which it appeared an Ottawa

The Senators made it 4-1 in the final two minutes of the second period, as Bobby Ryan broke in behind the Lightning defense and left a drop feed for Kyle Turris, who finished the play with his 18th goal of the year.

Turris and Ryan would also hook up early in the third, as Turris assisted on Ryan's 20th goal of the year to make the score 5-1.

A high-sticking penalty to Mark Barberio midway through the third put Tampa Bay back on the penalty kill, but Tyler Johnson was able to capitalize on a shorthanded breakaway to make it 5-2.

Victor Hedman made the game 5-3 with just under three minutes to play, and Tampa Bay spent the last two minutes of the game with six attackers on the ice, but could get no closer.

Lightning captain Martin St. Louis recorded his 600th career NHL assist in the third period on Hedman's goal.

Tampa Bay continues their road trip Saturday in Montreal with a matchup with the Canadiens.
