Noles Likely NIT-Bound After 64-51 Loss to Virginia

Noles Likely NIT-Bound After 64-51 Loss to Virginia

Florida State had a chance to put its NCAA tournament fate in its own hands but now, all the Noles can do with those hands is start crossing fingers.

It was close for almost a half before Virginia seized control for a 64-51 victory Friday afternoon in the ACC quarterfinals.

The Noles were tied 23-all with 3:30 left in the first half before Virginia got a 3 and a fast-break dunk to help lead 32-27 at the break.

FSU (19-13) never managed to get the margin under six after Virginia scored the first basket of the first half.

Entering the day the Noles were considered square on the NCAA bubble where a win against the sixth-ranked Cavaliers would have cemented an at-large berth. Instead the Noles must hope for a large number of other fringe teams to also fall in their conference tourneys -- and likely then hope for some mercy by the committee.

Joe Harris led Virginia with 20 points. Okaro White scored 17 with Aaron Thomas adding 13 for the Seminoes. They combined shot 12-for-23 but the rest of the lineup went 8-for-24.
