Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was supposed to throw out the first pitch of Saturday's game between the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees, but missed the opportunity after being involved in a minor traffic accident on the way to the ballpark.
620 WDAE received word first about the incident:
Hearing that Gerald McCoy missed throwing out the first pitch today at Trop because he was involved in a minor traffic accident. #Rays— Steve Carney (@stevecarney) May 25, 2013
And McCoy himself confirmed the incident after arriving at the ballpark shortly after first pitch.
Apologies to all. Got in a car accident on way to game and it caused me to miss. Everybody is ok.— Gerald McCoy (@Geraldini93) May 25, 2013
The Rays say they will reschedule McCoy to throw out a first pitch at a later time.
